Remember you must complete all requirements and submit the necessary paperwork to Council before you reach your 18th birthday.  Please consult your Scout handbook for details.

~Pick up an official Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project Workbook (#18-927D) from the Council office in San Angelo.  You may make a copy for writing down dates and use it for making notes, but the official workbook will be the one you eventually will turn in to the District Advancement Committee. Please turn in a neat and readable project workbook.

~Download a copy of the Eagle Rank and Project Guide located at www.cvcbsa.org
Look in the left hand column for Eagle Scout and click on Project Workbook.  This will be your step-by-step guide.

~Be active in your troop for a period of 6 months after you receive the rank of Life Scout.

~Demonstrate the principles of the Scout Oath and Law.

~Earn a total of 21 merit badges. (12 required)  Visit with the Council Registrar in charge of recording merit badges and have her download a copy of your records.  If there is a problem in regards to merit badges, now is the time to get this corrected.  You will eventually need her signature on your Eagle Rank Application.

~After achieving Life rank you must serve in a position of responsibility in your troop for 6 months or more.  Be very aware of the date when you achieve Life and the date you begin your position of responsibility.

~Plan, develop and give leadership to an Eagle service project.
NOTE:  Begin immediately, recording in a notebook, any work regarding this project.  This includes phone calls, visits with troop leaders, research, etc.  Keep an accurate log of everything.  You will use this information in your final report.

~Consult with the Scoutmaster and/or other leaders of your troop about your idea(s) for a project.  Verbal approval is all you need at this step.

~If you have not done so already, visit with leaders from the organization that will benefit from your project.  You must get their approval.  Don’t forget to get the signature from the representative from this organization.

~Write a detailed description of your project.  Use the Eagle Rank and Project Guide (from cvcbsa.org) to help you with this.  Make sure you show this work to the Scoutmaster and other leaders of your troop.

~Present your project to your Troop Committee at one of their meetings.  They may ask you questions and give you suggestions.  You will need their vote of approval to proceed to the next step.  Get signatures from the Scoutmaster and Committee Chairman.

~You need to call the Council office and request a time to meet with the District Advancement Committee (DAC).  The DAC meets the 2nd Monday of each month in the evening at the Council office.

~Make copies of your workbook and any other documents.  Turn in the original workbook to the Council office one week prior to your meeting with the District Advancement Committee (DAC). The District Advancement Committee will begin review of your workbook.

~The DAC must approve your project before work begins.  In some cases the DAC may reject your project or they may ask you to write more detail in the report.  You may be asked to return for a follow up visit with the Committee.  Remember this is not unusual and do not get discouraged.  Keep trying until all expectations are met. Projects need to show leadership, not just be a service project.

~Once the DAC gives their approval, set a date for your Eagle project.

~Once your project is completed, your project book will need a written final report and you will need signatures from the following people:  leader of the organization involved in the project, your scoutmaster and you.

~Once you have completed all the required number of merit badges and have completed your Eagle project now is time to fill out the Eagle Scout Rank Application.   All information and signatures must be completed on this application before an Eagle Board of Review may be held.  Note:  requirement 6 on the application requires you to write a statement of your ambitions and life purpose.  You are to include your position(s) of leadership in Scouting, church or school that you have held and include honors and awards.  A Scoutmaster conference needs to be held and the date of that conference recorded on the application.

~After the contents of the application has been verified and appropriately signed, the application and Project Workbook are returned to the Chairman of the Eagle Board of Review so that a board of review may be scheduled.  Eagle Board of Reviews must have at least one district or council representative on the board.  Unit leaders, assistant unit leaders, relatives or guardians may not serve as members of a Scout’s board of review.

~Once you have completed your Eagle Board of Review, the Eagle Scout application is signed and dated by the Review Board.  The application is then brought to the Council office for the final review and the Scout Executive’s signature.  The final step is the application is sent to the National office.

CONGRATULATIONS.  YOU HAVE COMPLETED YOUR EAGLE RANK.

Lastly, it is highly recommended that you write thank you
notes to all the people that helped you toward your Eagle rank.
