Troop Camporee

May 2-4 is the day of the Camporee at Goodfellow Air Force Base hosted by Troop 22 and Troop 340.  It will be a time for all Boy Scouts and Webelos hosted by Troops to stay overnight and enjoy the fellowship and challenge of the events scheduled.  These events will be hosted by many of the military units on base to showcase their expertise and is a great time to look for a career. The events promise to be educational, challenging, and rewarding and include K-9, weapons simulation, orienteering, safety, First Aid, a Fun Run, Black Powder, Dutch Oven cooking, and more.  Contact Freddie Medina: freddy_medina@yahoo.com or Butch Simpson for more information.

Amangi Trail District Banquet

The Amazing Amangi Trail Had another great year for Scouting in 2002.   We celebrated with a mixed fajita dinner with all the trimmings prepared by the Ericksons. To Mike and SaraBeth we would like to thank you for a wonderful meal..  It was excellent!  Zac Gomez had just returned from his Report to The Nation in Washington D.C. where he met with the President George Bush.  Thank you Zac for speaking at our banquet and for showing America that one boy CAN make a difference when you apply yourself to a goal.

Tammy Vercher and Shawna Blanchard received their Roundtable Staff Scouter Training Award, the Arrowhead Award, Commissioner Keys, and the Scouter Training Award.  They have been a tremendous asset to our program and we owe them our thanks for all their hard work. Those that have not yet attended the Cub Roundtable will find the information you receive benefits the program immediately and helps to guarantee a more successful program for our youth.  Remember, “Every Scout deserves a trained Leader.”

We had three individuals that were recognized with the District Award of Merit.  Steve Middlebrook is currently a member of Troop 22,  Steve Marro  is an Assistant Scoutmaster with Troop 3, and Erich Albert is an Assistant Scoutmaster with Troop 332.  I would like to personally thank them for their dedication and service to the Scouts they serve, the Amangi Trail District, and to the Concho Valley Council.

Permian Basin District Banquet

Congratulations to our two District Award of Merit Recipients Jim White of Ozona and Shelly Graue of Fort Stockton.  Both have done a fantastic job in the past and are looking ahead to the future.  If you see them around town, give them a big pat on the back.  Our new District Executive Michael Mitchell was in attendance as well.  Mike is an Eagle Scout from Wichita Falls, TX.  He has just received his bachelors from Oklahoma State University in December as well as got married.  Mike will be making the rounds around the district and hopes to meet and greet everyone soon.

To the Great Permian Basin District:

My name is Michael A. Mitchell, I am excited to be your new DE and just want to let you know that I am committed to staying in the Permian Basin District at least three years.  These are changing times full of opportunities and I want to make sure that you receive the best, professional  service possible.

I am an Eagle Scout from Wichita Falls in North Texas.  I recently graduated from Oklahoma State University with a degree in Leisure Management Services, a degree that specializes in outdoor recreation and also how to make sure that people have a safe and fun time outdoors.  I took extra classes in non-profit management since I knew I wanted to be a Professional Scouter since before I started college.

I was married on December 28, 2002 to Jessica ‘Jessie’ Mitchell.  We have two ‘kids’, a puppy named Tiny and a kitten named Chunk.  She has another year of college left so we decided to live in San Angelo.  This works well for me because the highways from San Angelo make a perfect triangle around the Permian Basin District; making it easy for me to get to see everybody in my district in a timely manner.

I have enjoyed meeting numerous volunteers at the Blue and Gold's and other meetings; and I look forward to meeting the rest of the volunteers soon.  If you have questions or if you need any assistance feel free to call me at the office or my cell phone: 325-556-3623.

Uvalde Starts 2003 Friends of Scouting Campaign with Dinner

What a spectacular way to help Friends of Scouting get off to a roaring start than to have a dinner to honor all Eagle Scouts from the Uvalde area. Over three hundred youth and adults attended this dinner hosted by Governor Dolph Briscoe Jr. at the Uvalde Country Club. Barry Hindler was the Master of ceremonies. The Scouter’s were treated to an exquisite dinner and speaker. Dr. Robert Gaits, Eagle Scout and Ex- Director of the CIA was the guest speaker. He is currently the President of Texas A&M University. Thank you to Mr. Bill Dillard for helping plan this event and Scout Executive Carl Cummins for all his hard work.

Amistad District Banquet
