Philmont Volunteer Leader Training

Philmont is one of the most famous Scout Ranches in existence.  Many boys have gone on treks there and had a great time.  Philmont also offers a top notch training center.  The best part about the training center is that while the adults are in training conferences their children can attend planned activities, so the whole family can have fun. The Philmont training course outline lists the trainings that Philmont offers by the month they are offered in.  Each month has a theme associated with a specific area in Scouting. Your month might be just around the corner.  Please hurry though, reservations and payments need to made through the Council Office.

For more information please check out the Philmont Training Centers website:

BOY SCOUT SHOOTOUT

Take part in the 2003 Boy Scout Shootout Sporting Clays Invitational to benefit the Concho Valley Council BSA Scoutreach Programs.  Bring your friends and clients,  shoot clays, have a great time, tune up for dove season and help in sending underprivileged Scouts throughout West Texas to Summer Camp.

The Shootout will be held at the San Angelo Clay Bird Association, Highway 67 West on Sunday, August 31, 2003. Registration and practice is at 8:00 am.  The 1st rotation is at 9:00 am and the 2nd rotation is at 2:00pm.

The Fun Shoot is $125.00 for all shooters and includes 14 stations and 100 targets.  Scoring will be based on Lewis Class Scoring.  A Baretta 391 shotgun will go to 1 of every 10 shooters.  There are sponsorships available ranging from $250.00 to $750.00, this includes 1-3 shooters and sponsor signage.

Scouts and Troops are needed to help with this activity.  Service opportunities include a flag ceremony in the morning, manning the 14 different stations, helping  with food service and clean up after the event.  Steve Middlebrook will be heading up these efforts on the day of the shoot.

For more information please contact Dennis Luellen at (800) 321-7107 or (325) 655-7107, or by  e-mail at bsa741@gte.net.

2004 Boy Scout Auction

The 2004 Auction is just around the corner and there are already donations piling into the office.  The purpose of the Auction is to benefit the over 7,000 youth that are served by the Concho Valley Council throughout the 24 county service area. Each of the 185 Scouting Units receive training, program support, and outdoor camping facilities to support the youth members.  Also, the proceeds allow the Executive Board to offer camping programs at the lowest cost to the participating families.  The mission of Scouting is to build character, and train young men and women in citizenship and personal fitness; the mission of the auction is to help financially support those ideals.

If you have any items that you wish to donate please drop them off at the Council Office or call us at (800) 321-7107 or (325) 655-7107.  Did we mention that we pick up?

The warehouse location for the actual auction will be announced closer to the date of the auction.  Last year we filled up a warehouse with everything from vehicles, to boats, to saddles, and everything in between. Any item is accepted, if it is not good auction material then it can be sold in the garage sale adjacent to the auction.

Refreshments will be available so you can plan to make the auction an all day affair.  Hope to see you there and bring all you treasures to help support the Boy Scouts.
