The Joys of E-mail
It has
occurred to us that the Great Permian Basin District
does not have a current e-mail list for all leaders
and committee members for our units. This list
would be a tremendous help to the council and the District
committee. We would like all leaders and committee
members to e-mail (if you have the capability) Mike
Mitchell so he can start a new e-mail list. E-mail him
at TxWarthog@aol.com.
You may also use this address to keep in touch with
Mike.
Enter Some New Volunteers
The Great
Permian Basin District would like to welcome two new
volunteers to the district, Mike Bahm and Wayne Byrd,
both of Big Lake.
Mike
Bahm has taken on the responsibility of Scoutmaster
of Troop 58 and District Commissioner for the Permian
Basin. He is a Silver Beaver Recipient, Woodbadge trained,
and has served on several committees in the Sam Houston
Area Council.
Wayne
Byrd joined scouting in May of 2003. Wayne is
the middle school principal in Big Lake, his enthusiasm
and outstanding personality is something we could not
overlook. Wayne is already planning our Fall Camporee
(Oct. 10,11,12 in Big Lake) and is our membership chairman
for Big Lake and surrounding areas.
If you
know anyone like Wayne or Mike in your town please let
Mike Mitchell know. Due to the distance and time
constraints in this district he is trying a new idea
where each town has a community committee. These
committees will help the District and Council committee
keep in touch with each town. We need about three
to five people in each town to make this plan work.
E-mail Mike with ideas or questions at TxWarthog@aol.com

Welcome Back Mr. Martinez
You’ve
heard the expression, “I’ve got good news and bad news”?
Well the bad news is that due to personal reasons
Nicky Martinez has resigned from the Boy Scouts and
has gone back to Wichita Falls to be with his family.
We wish Nicky the very best in his future pursuits.
The good
news is that we are welcoming back Gerardo Martinez
to the position of Unit Serving Executive for the Amistad
District. Gerardo served the district from 1989
until 1993 and was then transferred to the East Texas
Area Council where he worked for another year or so.
Gerardo left the Boy Scouts in 1994 and has been
living in Junction and working for the State of Texas
in the Department of Social Services. He and his
family will remain in Junction for this school year
so his High School Senior son can play football and
graduate. Then the Martinez family will relocate south,
somewhere inside the district. Gerardo brings
a lot of experience to the district and remembers many
of the volunteers who are still working hard to bring
the Boy Scout program to the youth of the district.
Gerardo can be reached through the council service
center at 1-800-321-7107 or on his cell phone at 830-703-6343.
Please take time to welcome Gerardo back to Scouting
and back to the Amistad District.
More Changes
You may
have noticed an omission of any references to the Winter
Garden District in the story above. This is not
a mistake. The Council Executive Committee voted
last month to merge the two districts back into one
service area to make it easier to serve by one Executive.
