2004 Popcorn Sale Is Underway!

It is that time of year again! School is back in session, new Cub Scouts have been joining Cub Scout Packs across Southwest Texas & the time has come for Trails End Popcorn to help make their dreams of camping & shooting BB-guns & bows & arrows a reality.

As the Concho Valley Council enters its’ 21st year of selling popcorn some things stay the same & some changes have been made.

9 Product Line-up

This year we will be selling 9 products to give consumers more choices & to increase sales. Back by popular demand are the 12-ounce caramel corn - $7, the butter microwave & butter light microwave 15 packs - $12, 28- ounce gourmet caramel corn with almonds & pecans, or a 24-ounce chocolate caramel corn each $15, New products – an 18-pack of microwave kettle corn for $20, a tin of chocolate caramel corn topped with a tin of chocolate caramel pecan turtles for $30, the Texas Pride 3-way tin with gourmet caramel corn, chocolate caramel corn & cheese corn -$40, & a chocolate lovers tin with chocolate covered pretzels, white chocolate covered pretzels, chocolate caramel corn, white chocolate caramel corn & chocolate peanut clusters only $50. The important thing to remember is that over 70% of the price of the popcorn stays with the Scouts.

We have brought back an excellent prize program with name brands like Sony, Motorola, Buck, Coleman & Nintendo. In addition, we have added an extra incentive for all Scouts selling popcorn. Every time a Scout fills an order sheet a copy needs to be made & sent to the council office & the Scout’s name will be entered into a drawing. Prizes that will be awarded in this drawing are a Gameboy SP, a Playstation 2 system an X-Box system, a GameCube system & a TV.

A true Son of Texas, Patrick S. Wedding was bred, born, & raised in the wind swept plains of the Texas Panhandle. He graduated from Kress High School in 1976, & received a B.S. History & Education in 1980 from Wayland Baptist College in Plainview, Texas.

Patrick started his career with the Boy Scouts in 1981 & has served in various staff positions including District Executive, Senior Exploring Executive, District Director, Program Director, Endowment Director, Director of Finance & now Scout Executive. His career has taken him from Sweetwater & Wichita Falls, Texas to Santa Fe & Albuquerque, New Mexico, back to Amarillo down to San Antonio & now San Angelo.

Several recognitions have come Patrick's way. A few of these include: Vigil Honor, James E. West Fellowship Award, National Endowment Excellence Award, & the Fellowship Circle. He is a member of the Association of Professional Fundraisers & Rotary.

Over the years he has served been an advisor to council operating committees on finance, public relations, training, membership, relationships, activities & civic service. Patrick has also been an advisor to council special project committees for Family FOS, Wood Badge, Fall Roundup, Jamboree, Scouting for Food, Product Sales, Golf Tournaments as well as an Alpha Phi Omega chapter.

Patrick is married to Cheryl. Yes, they met in Scouting. Their son, Stephen, an Eagle Scout, is awaiting recall into the U.S. Army. They attend the Episcopal

Church of the Good Shepherd in San Angelo.

Currently, Patrick's mission is to meet as many people as time will allow to talk to them about the Concho Valley Council.

Patrick’s Scouting Philosophy

When we were working to become First Class Scouts one of the tasks we had to master was lashing. One of the first lashing we learn was the tripod. That three legged contraption for holding a wash basin or cooking pot took practice. If you wrapped it too tightly then the poles would never spread far enough apart to hold anything. On the other hand, if the rope was left too loose then it would fall apart all together. This is much like a Boy Scout Council. The three legs are membership, program & finance. The rope that binds them altogether & assures the success of the effort is leadership. It does not matter whether you are an Assistant Den Leader in Fort Stockton, a Scoutmaster in Uvalde or the Council President in San Angelo your role is essential to success of Scouting. Our young people in 24 counties of Southwest Texas are depending on you, today. In the weeks & months ahead, I look forward to working with you to provide more youth with an even better life through the programs of the Boy Scouts of America & Learning for Life.
