2005 Council Auction
a Huge Success!

The Council held its’ annual auction recently to help generate revenue for our ever-growing Scout program.

Wally Holman put on a great event again this year!  He and his committee put in a lot of hard work on the event. Thanks to all the volunteers who helped make this year’s auction such a success. The auction was second only to last year in revenue generated.

Special thanks to John Bass and Jim Bass Ford for providing the greatest auction location in the sale’s history! And hat’s off again to Larry Oxley and Oxley Auction Service for running such a quality auction.

The 2005 auction broke several records including numbers of registered bidders.

FRIENDS OF SCOUTING UPDATE

Friends of Scouting like you have been coming forward this year to make themselves known. So many times in life we wonder how we can make a difference or how we can be heard above the crowd.  Joining with others that believe in the values of Scouting is a very important way to meet these objectives. Providing training to new leaders, camperships to needy scouts, insurance to youth and adult members, processing Eagle Scout applications all make the mission of Scouting achievable.  All these services and countless program features are made possible by Friends of Scouting like you.  Your donations help keep our council strong and independent.

If by some chance no one has asked you to be a Friend of Scouting then please consider this a request.  Please take a moment to contact the Council Service Office by calling 655-7107/800-312-7107 or by e-mail bsa741@gte.net or visit www.give2bsa.org  to get the details on becoming a Friend of Scouting today.   As a Friend of Scouting you will provide the resources to change the lives of over 10,000 young people in 2005.  A very good return on your commitment no doubt.

UNITED WAY OF CONCHO VALLEY UPGRADES ALLOCATION

Earlier this year, the United Way of the Concho Valley reduced its funding to the Concho Valley Council by nearly 40%  With additional efforts of Steve Stephens and another agency accepting only designated gifts more funds became available.  The Community Investment Committee and Board of UWCV allocated an additional $9000 for 2005.  This support of Scouting by the community is truly appreciated.

Thank you for giving to the United Way.

75TH ANNIVERSARY IDEAS  (cont. from page 1)

9. Designate a special Uniform Day on which all boys wear the Cub Scout uniform to school.

10. Make a time capsule. Have each boy contribute an item that represents him. Set a date for when the capsule will be opened.

11. Start a collection. Keep adding to your collection until you have at least 75 items.

12. Conduct a space derby with a 75th Anniversary theme. Have boys decorate their spaceships as they would expect them to look 75 years in the future.

24. Make a 75th Anniversary banner for your pack to carry in a parade or to display at other community events.

25. Work with your chartered organization to promote recognition of Cub Scouting’s 75th Anniversary in the organization’s correspondence, newsletters, or other media.

“THE POOLED INCOME FUND AND YOUR ESTATE”

Many people choose a will as their principal vehicle for making charitable gifts.  There are many advantages to this, but bequests do not provide you with either immediate income tax deductions or lifetime income in return for making a charitable gift to Scouting.  A gift to the pooled income fund, however, does.

By making a modest gift to the pooled income fund-an initial gift of $5,000 in cash or stocks-your gift will be placed into a nationwide pool of similar gifts to Scouting.  These gifts are invested for maximum income, payable to you for life.  At the end of your lifetime, or the lifetime of a surviving spouse, your gift is removed form the pooled fund and given to your local council.  They will place your gift into their endowment fund, or use it however you designate.

The BSA Pooled Income Fund is a great way to show the Concho Valley Council that you care about its financial future.  Contact Patrick S. Wedding, Scout Executive, for more information at 655-7107 or 800-321-7107 or by e-mail at  on this interesting way to benefit not just our council, but your family as well.
