Concho
Valley Council Receives
Quality Council Recognition
The
Concho Valley Council has
been recognized as a Quality
Council for the year 2004.
There
are several criteria that
must be met in order to
receive this recognition,
including:
|

|
Membership
growth - the
council must
record an increase
in all areas
of membership
(Cub Scouts,
Boy Scouts,
Venturers and
Learning for
Life participants).
|
|

|
Units
- the council
must have more
Packs, Troops,
Crews and Groups
than last year.
|
|

|
Quality
Units - 60%
or more of the
units must have
achieved Quality
Unit status.
|
|

|
Finance
- the council
must have a
balanced budget.
|
|
Less
than ten percent of the
councils in the Boy Scouts
of America received this
recognition this year.
In
addition, the Concho Valley
Council led our area (Area
2) in membership growth
and finance.
Our
thanks and congratulations
go out to all the unit leaders
and council volunteers who
helped achieve this recognition.
Permian
Basin and Amistad Districts
were also recognized
as Quality Districts by
achieving similar benchmarks.
*Note
- 2001 was the last time
our council received this
recognition.

2004
Advancement Proof of Quality Program
If
you really want to have a clear picture
of how strong the Scouting program is
locally, there is no better place to
look than to advancement.
When
we think of advancement we often think
of the rank of Eagle Scout. Out of the
council’s 826 Boy Scouts, 45 earned
their Eagle badge in 2004. In
addition, 294 other Boy Scout Rank Advancements
from Tenderfoot to Life were recorded
this past year.
Another
good indicator of a strong program is
to track how many merit badges were
earned by those 826 Scouts. In
2004 our council recorded 1518 total
merit badges earned. The number one
merit badge earned was Swimming followed
closely by Citizenship in the Community.
Both are Eagle required merit badges.
But
let’s not forget the Cub Scouts. Total
Cub Scout Rank Advancements was 594
for 2004, including 203 Bobcats.
It
takes many hours of dedicated leadership
and volunteerism to help our young men
achieve these advancements. Special
thanks go out to all the parents, leaders,
merit badge counselors and others who
helped Scouts along the advancement
trail.
These
numbers do not reflect any advancements
that were not turned in to our service
center.
