The Amangi Trail District would like to welcome Richard Kitchen as its’ new Unit-Serving Executive.  Richard joined the Concho Valley staff on December 28, 2004 and has already been busy visiting winter camp and getting to know some of the volunteers of the district.

Richard brings a wealth of knowledge to his new position.  He has been working as a substitute teacher for the San Angelo Independent School District, has owned his own sporting goods store and worked for the State of Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory  Services.

Richard grew up in Big Spring and is familiar with West Texas.  Richard is also bi-lingual.

Please help us welcome Richard  to our family.  You can reach him at 325-277-5712.

2004 Permian Basin Banquet

Several of our district leaders were in attendance at the 2004 Permian Basin Banquet.  Troop 153 of Ozona cooked a great meal and performed the flag ceremony.  John Fluth handled the invocation and MC’d the rest of the banquet.

Many awards were given at the banquet.  First were the district “Spark Plug” awards.  These awards are given to leaders throughout the district that keep the “fire of Scouting” alive in their communities.  The district gave three of these awards this year. First was to Jean Richardson, Pack 31, of Mc Camey.  Jean has worked very hard during this year and has increased the number of boys actively attending the meetings from 4 to 12.  Second went to Ande Paulk, Pack 106, of Imperial. Ande has done a tremendous job and is not only the Cubmaster but because of the size of the town he serves as the Scoutmaster and Venturing Advisor. Last went to Bobby Stegall, Pack 160, of Sanderson. Bobby has been Cubmaster for several years and at this year’s rally decided he would step down.  When no other parents would take the position, Bobby stepped back in as Cubmaster and is again running a fantastic program. Linda Conner, Troop 153, Ozona received the Popcorn Kernal award for serving as the district Popcorn Kernal where we increased popcorn sales by 13%.

The last award of the evening was the District Award of Merit.  The person has to be nominated and then voted upon by members of the District Committee. The person selected this year was Kary Warden, Pack 420, of Junction. Kary has for several years given countless hours not only to her own pack in Junction but has given at most district and council events held at Camp Sol Mayer. A special “Thank You” goes out to Kary and her family for the work they do.  We could not do it without you.
