Amangi Trail

As our summer camping season comes to an end, we find ourselves working hard to prepare for the start of a new school year. School nights and rallies are now in the process of being scheduled. Our fall membership drive will be well under way when school comes back in session in late August. A reminder to all Cubmasters and Scoutmasters this is a great time to have an open house to recruit boys to participate in all of our upcoming scouting events. Please schedule time to have a boy talk within your neighboring schools now.

The Fall is also a wonderful time to have a fundraiser to help financially support next years summer time activities. The council’s biggest fundraiser Popcorn will be offered soon to the units to sell. Now is the time to find a representative in your unit to assist with coordinating the fall popcorn drive for your pack or troop.

The Amangi Trail District Committee is growing. The start of new school year approaches, and as a result we need to find individuals willing to help support our district committees. Training, Membership, Commissioner staff and Program are a few of the areas our district could use some help. These teams are vital to the success of our district. The programs are developed and carried out by volunteers and members of the district committee will teach, recruit, and guide, new boys and leaders into all of the great adventures that the Amangi Trail District has to offer. Permian Basin District

I have program Preview Packets for your unit. Please call me so we can arrange a time for me to deliver the packet to your unit.

The Permian Basin is ready to kick off the fall with a bang. Anyone interested in helping with the Cub Scout School Nights can call Chris Johnson at 325-277-7189.

Summer Camp at Sol Mayer was a success, as we had three troops from the Permian Basin district attend. I would like to extend a thank you to the Scoutmasters of those troops: Dr. Pat Johnson of Troop 18 in Eldorado, Manny Tobias of Troop 19 in Sonora, and David Kemp of Troop 54 in Ft. Stockton. Thank you Dr. Johnson and Manuel Tobias for serving as medical officer while at summer camp.

The District also owes a big thank you to Tilden Stewart of Ft. Stockton and Ted Hogan of Crane for serving as Camp Commissioners.

Several positions remain open in the District Committee, and those are Popcorn Kernel for the District, and District Membership Chairman. If anyone is interested in helping in any capacity, please call me.

I have submitted my resignation to the Council Office effective August 31st due to personal reasons. I enjoyed my time here in the Permian Basin District. After I leave, questions should be directed to the Field Director, Devin Koehler, at the council office at 1-800-321-7107 or 325-655-7107.

 Amistad District

August of 2006 brings us to a new school year. Hope you all had a restful vacation. This School Year we are challenged to pick up the membership, get on Board to the Race to Scouting. Each Pack should have a committee person assigned to handle membership rallies at your school. Contact Gerardo Martinez (830) 703-4363 as soon as possible to plan your rally. August 3rd, 2006 will be the first Amistad Roundtable. This will be the Program Preview. The Amistad District meeting will be Monday, August 21, 2006 in Brackettville. The first Thursday of every month will be the Amistad Roundtables in Del Rio. The third Monday of every month will be the District Meetings. Rick Alderete, District Chairman wants to try alternate meeting locations. To be announced at a later date.

Amistad District will have A Webelos Woods program at Camp Fawcett. The event is scheduled for September 29 and 30 ending Sunday October 1, 2006. This is an excellent opportunity for Troop and Pack leaders to ensure Webelos cross over to Scouting. Each Troop needs to host a Webelos Den to the event. This will be a fun camping opportunity to show off Scout Skills and enjoy Camp Fawcett. There will be an OA Fall Ordeal at Camp Fawcett, October 7, 2006.

Mark your calendars for Fun With Son on the 2nd weekend of October and Family Camp on the 3rd weekend of October.
