The Wahinkto Lodge #199 had a great work weekend at Camp Sol Mayer the weekend of April 21st-23rd.  We accomplished many things that were needed to get the camp up and running for the Cub Events in May, and the upcoming Summer Camp Season.  We also saw about a dozen new Arrowmen complete their ordeal, and six new Brotherhood members.  We will be having our upcoming Summer Fellow- ship in August, and a fall ordeal and work weekend at Camp Fawcett.  For details, please contact Peter, Perez, Lodge Chief, or Chris Johnson, District Executive.

Camp Sol Mayer

It’s getting to that time of year…Summer Camp!!! We have a great staff assembled, including Chris Johnson as Camp Director, Lisa Mahler as Business Manager, Brad McCormick as Program Director, and Matt Huro as Assistant Program Director.  We are almost full. We have THREE campsites open during the three weeks, so if you would like to reserve one, please contact Lisa at the Scout office.  We look forward to seeing you this summer!

Key to Scouting

An integral part of Scouting has been, and will continue to be Boy’s Life Magazine.  It is published for Cubs, Boy Scouts, and Venturing age Scouts, in age-appropriate formats corresponding to each level of Scouting.  The Magazine reaches over one million Scouts per month, and 200,000 non-scout subscribers.  It is well-known that scouts who subscribe to Boys’ Life are more likely to advance and more likely to stay involved in Scouting, as this magazine exposes them to Scouting activities they would normally not see in their hometown.  The magazine can be called a silent assistant, helping keep the kids involved and active in the program.  We would encourage you to subscribe today.  For more details, ask your District Executive or call the council office to sign up.

Continuing to Meet the Needs of Our Volunteers!
Youth Protection Training for Adult Leaders and Parents Now Available Online

As one of America’s largest youth-serving organizations, we continually address important issues that impact young people; among these is Youth Protection. We are committed to making the Scouting environment as wholesome as possible for our youth members and adult volunteers.

We continue to seek and implement improvements to our Youth Protection Training. Youth Protection guidelines for Adult Leaders and Parents and Youth Protection Guidelines for Venturing Advisors are available via the council website: www.cvcbsa.org. “Youth Protection is the most important training we offer. We feel that offering this important training via the convenience of the Internet is well received by our volunteers who tend to have very full schedules,” stated Patrick Wedding, Scout Executive.

Simply scroll down to the training section of the council website, sign in, and begin the training, which concludes with a test. Upon completion of the training, your name will be matched through the council’s database of registered leaders. You will proceed to a printable certificate of completion. Keep this certificate to acknowledge completion of the training.

As of January 1, 2003, the BSA tour permit policy requires at least one youth protection-trained leader on all trips and outings requiring a tour permit. Completion of either, this online Youth Protection training or our traditional youth protection training scheduled throughout the year, is required. We believe the critical importance of protecting our youth from abuse or violence will be recognized by all and that parents and leaders will take comfort and pride in the steps we are taking.
