New Patch from the Bullock Texas State History Museum

Scouts of all levels are eligible to earn this new patch from the State History Museum.  The goal of this patch is to encourage Scouts to explore their individual identity through stories of family, community and Texas history.  To earn the patch Scouts, age 8-11, must complete four starred activities from a workbook and one additional activity from each section for a total of eight activities.  For Scouts age 12-17 a total of ten activities are required.  A sample workbook is available at the Council office for Scout leaders to review.  For more information or to order a booklet, leaders can call (512) 936-4608 or email Education@TheStoryofTexas.com, subject line: Scout History Patch.  A downloadable and printable PDF version of the booklet is also available on the museum’s website at www.TheStoryofTexas.com.

Camp Rangers’ Minute

Sol Mayer is dry and the grass is short, we missed the rains in September. We are still in need of hay and feed for the horses. Anyone interested in helping with feed can call me at 325-396-2223 or 325-234-6242. We have ten horses to feed this winter. I will be winterizing Sol Mayer after Webelos Woods so when you register for weekend camping with Lisa at the office, be sure to let her know what campsite so I can have the water on and your latrine ready. Deer season is open and will not close until mid January. No hiking on the ranch allowed during hunting season.

Fawcett is closed during deer season but will open January 20th for troop camping. The Order of the Arrow held the fall ordeal at Fawcett on September 22-24 with crews to trim trees, build fence, general clean up, road work, plumbing, erosion repair, trimming trails, hauling brush and cleaning latrines. Lots of work was done and many good projects finished. Thank you for your support and hard work.

Please remember if your unit schedules a camp out at one of the camps and will be more than one hour late or cancel the camp-out please call my cell at 325-234-6242 or camp at 325-396-2223 and let me know.
