WHY WRITE A WILL?

Whether you are married, single, widowed, or divorced, you need a will. In many cases, it has nothing to do with how large or small your estate may be. Without a will, your estate will notbe distributed to those family members and organizations that you care about. The State will decide who gets your assets, and probably keep a sizable chunk of it for itself. Without a will, the State can also decide who takes care of your young children when you are gone.

Without a will, your family and friends will suffer, but so will your church, your schools, and Scouting. Your bequest gift can make a real difference in the financial future of our council and the other organizations that are important to you and your family. Call Patrick S. Wedding, Scout Executive and ask for more information on the importance of a will and what it can mean to you.

You spent a lifetime building your estate. Now it's time to take a few minutes to protect that estate.

How can I help without
volunteering or giving money?

While that seems a strange question, the answer is a simple one and an important one.  Every year dozens of people, firms and organizations provide support to the Concho Valley Council and never send a check or attend a meeting. These gifts are projects sales.  Often these take the form of a "gift in kind."  This is when a good or service that the council would normally have to purchase with Friends of Scouting dollars is provided at no cost.

Everything from paper clips to toilet paper, reams of papers to cases of fluorescent light tubes, bales of hay to sets of tires are all vital to the on going programs of the council.  Of course making sure that the right sizes or amounts of these items are received in a timely basis is very important.  So if you have a surplus of something sitting in a closet at home or work, please contact the Council Office by e-mail or call 655-7107/ 800-321-7107 to see if your abundance is in short supply.

Friends of Scouting:
Aren't we all?

This year's annual Friends of Scouting campaign will raise over $192,000 in just over 120 days. Your support of this effort is extremely important to the overall success of the mission of the Concho Valley Council. Delivering the promise of Scouting to over 4000 youth and leaders is only possible through this process.

Those values are found in the Scout Oath and Law. It is with this in mind that this year's Friends of Scouting council shoulder patch bears the words, "Thrifty and Brave.” This is the fifth in the Scout Law series. Youth all across the twenty-four county area are trusting in you to do your part during the Friends of Scouting effort. But what is your part you ask? First, make your own pledge and fulfill it. Whatever the amount, set the example for others. Second, make sure that a unit presentation is scheduled and conducted in your unit. Third, take the time to tell someone else the story of Scouting, how it affects your life and those of the youth you lead.

Finally, thank you for being a Friend of Scouting. Time and money are precious resources to be sure. But, the future of our children is even more so and that is why we invest both in them so freely.
