The Magazine for All Boys

"Boys’ Life benefits Cub Scouts in many ways including:

Advancement-The advancement rate for Boys’ Life subscribers is more than twice that for non-subscribers.

Activities-Survey indicates that approximately 85 percent of Scouting show participants are Boys’ Life subscribers

Good Reading-Boys’ Life is a good mix of exciting stories and valuable information that makes it fun for Cub Scout-age boys to read. Reading is a survival skill

Family Support-Parents, brothers, and sisters read Boys’ Life and become more supportive of Scouting.

Longer Tenure-Boys’ Life subscribers stay in scouting an average 2 ½ times longer than non-subscribers."

Support is Key

New ideas and objectives for the Concho Valley Council: Recently we had new ideas with respect to the workings of Commissioner Service.

We as commissioners need to be more proactive in helping Units achieve the Centennial Unit Award. We have recently gained two new District Commissioners. We currently have the best of experience as well as Unit Commissioners staying on to help the system. We will be setting goals for Unit Commissioner recruitment. So I will say this now; “Wanted a few good men and women to serve as Unit Commissioners.” Volunteer to help your District and Assistant District Commissioner. Let us grow the Concho Valley Council.

The Council Scout Shop

By now all registered Scouters and Scouts should have received in the mail the Winter 2007 edition of the National Supply catalog. There will be several catalogs published during 2007. These catalogs will be smaller than the previous 140-page annual retail catalog and will be focused on specific themes (e.g., pinewood derby, blue and gold, camping, back to school, etc.).

There are several ways to order from National Supply. The fastest way is to call or go online and order using your personal credit card number. That website is www.scoutstuff.org. Or you may fill out an order form and mail in a check with the order to National Supply. Lastly, you can call the Council office in San Angelo and check with Lisa for items in stock or she can order from the National Supply for you if she does not have the item(s) that you want. Lisa will take credit card orders over the phone and she can mail items to you.

The Council Scout Shop is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

A reminder to all Scout leaders: When you place an order for advancement items, don’t forget to turn in a Unit Advancement Report. A copy of this report (and many other reports or forms) can be downloaded from:

A Scout does not get credit for earning these awards until the data is given to the council office. You can fax, mail or drop by the advancement report to the Council office. Make sure you keep a copy for the Pack or Troop record book.
