BE PART OF THE NEXT SPACE MISSION!
(And get the official patch to prove it.)
Half of all US Astronauts are Scouts, and 40 Astronauts are Eagle Scouts. Now, you can experience a bit of what it feels like by visiting the website:
www.charlesinspace.com.
This April, software pioneer Dr. Charles Simonyi will travel to the International Space Station as the next civilian in space. On his web site he is sharing the experience with kids. You can see pictures of Charles in training, ask questions, and learn about the science of real space travel.
Best of all, by clicking on the Boy Scouts tab and taking an interactive quiz, you could earn the official Simonyi mission space patch. Pass the quiz, print the coupon, and then take it to your local Scout Shop or Council Trading Post to redeem. Find out if you’ve got the right stuff. The Patch is limited to the Council and is available while supplies last beginning April 1, 2007. Just visit the website:
www.charlesinspace.com today, and be part of the next mission to space!

Now is the time to be thinking about “graduation” of your Cub Scouts into their next level of learning. Tigers to Wolves (2nd grade), Wolves to Bears (3rd grade),Bears to first year Webelos (4th grade) and 1st year Webelos to the 2nd year of Webelos (5th grade). The National Council encourages Packs to conduct their program on a June to May cycle. For example: when a 1st grader (Tiger) finishes school, he will then be considered a Wolf. He may begin study in the Wolf book during the summer.
The exception to this program plan is the 5th grade Webelos. Those Scouts will be finishing their Arrow of Light award in the fall and begin to visit Troops. The Pack’s February Blue and Gold banquet is the perfect time to present the Arrow of Light award with a crossover ceremony planned for March that involves the Troop that the Scout will be joining.
2007 SUMMERTIME PACK AWARD FOR CUB SCOUTS A pack can qualify for the National Summertime Pack Award by planning and conducting three pack activities - one each in June, July, and August. This award can be an incentive for greater attendance at your summer pack activities. Individual scouts that participate in all three-pack events can receive the National Summertime Pack Award pin. Qualifying packs receive a colorful streamer for their pack flag. Dens with an average attendance of at least half their members at the three summer pack events will be eligible for a colorful den participation ribbon.
The purpose of the National Summertime Pack Award is to encourage packs to provide a year-round program by continuing to meet during the time periods when school is out of session for several weeks or months. If a pack is in a 'year-round school' (or is part of a home-school association), the pack could earn the Summertime Pack Award by having a special pack activity during those breaks.
A scout that earns the Summertime Pack Award pin should display it pinned on the right pocket flap. Multiple pins may be displayed from each year it is earned.
If the scout has also earned the Outdoor Activity Award, it should be sewn on the right pocket flap and then the Summertime pin pinned through the patch.
Please contact your local Youth Serving Executive or the Council Office for an application or answers to any additional questions you might have. The application can also be obtained from the Concho Valley Council website under National Forms or by searching on the internet. We encourage all units to participate to help maintain membership and stability within your pack.
