Concho Valley Council Awards First
Entrepreneurship Merit Badge
Hank Googe III is the first
Boy Scout in the Concho Valley Council to earn the new Entrepreneurship
Merit Badge. Hank is a Life Scout in Troop 58 in Big Lake. Requirements
for the Merit Badge include identifying a product or service to sell. The
individual must then do marketing research to identify who the customers
would be. They must identify how to promote the product. Budgets must be
made to determine the cost of a prototype. It must also be determined how
much money it will take to start the business. The personnel it will take
to operate the business must also be explained. Job descriptions for each
person must also be completed. The Scouts are expected to make a prototype.
They must also project the sales for the first quarter of operation. Once
all of these steps have been taken the Scout must actually start their
business.
Hank earned this merit badge by starting his own business
called Hank’s Outdoor Adventures. While following all the mentioned steps
Hank started and still maintains his own Taxidermy business. He built a
large shop in the back yard that he operates out of. He is always more
than willing to show you his trophy Bucks, Bobcats, Turkeys and Foxes.
Hank has learned that being a Boy Scout can be very rewarding as well as
lucrative. Congratulations to Hank Googe for being the first recipient
of Entrepreneurship Merit Badge.

The National Cub Scout Committee
approved expanding the Cub Scout Sports and Academics program to include
Tiger Cubs and their partners. To earn recognition, Tiger Cubs must
have their adult partner with them when participating in the Sports and
Academics program.
The Cub Scout Sports and Academics program is a supplemental program
that complements the existing Cub Scout program. The activities allow boys to learn new techniques, develop
sportsmanship, and increase scholarship skills while having fun.
Participating in the program allows boys to be recognized for enjoying
teamwork, physical fitness, and talent-building activities. Each
boy is encouraged to do his best.
Start by doing what is necessary; then do what is
possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible.

Our congratulations to these Eagle Scouts for accomplishing
what only two percent of all Scouts are able to do. These Eagles
today are the leaders of America and the world tomorrow.
