The Permian Basin District holds a monthly Committee meeting. The District Committee is responsible for carrying out functions in four areas. These are Membership, Finance, Program, and Unit Service. These meetings are conducted to insure that the youth of the Permian Basin District receive the best Scouting Program possible. We meet on the first Tuesday of every month. The next meeting of the District Committee will be Tuesday, April 6 at 7:00 P.M. at Burgers & Bar B.Q. in Fort Stockton. The meetings are held in various communities throughout the year. If you would like to be involved at this level please contact the Scout Office for more information or attend a meeting.

The Advancement system of the Boy Scouts of America is crucial to the survival of Scouting Units. A unit that does not recognize the achievements and advancements of its participants is headed for trouble. A unit that holds regular meetings to award young people for their accomplishments will not only have better response from parents and families but will also grow in membership year in and year out. Every boy wants to be recognized for the work they put into Scouting. It is only fair to do this for them. The Council provides Advancement reports to all leaders. If you need more forms call the office.

The Advancement Chairperson for the Permian Basin District is Kathy Woods. She can be reached at:

Thanks to all volunteers who have given their time to make our District better than ever!  Once again, Amangi Trail has been recognized as a Quality District because of your dedication and hard work.   Congratulations to all Amangi Trail Eagle Scouts.

As everyone gears up for springtime events, don’t forget your Family FOS presentation.  Most units have scheduled one by now; if you have not, please contact either Polly Vaughan or myself.  Speaking of Spring, remember that the new Boy  Scout advancement requirements take effect April 1st. If you are unsure of the rank and merit badge requirement changes, please see me before March 31st.

We need more Scouters at both the District Committee meeting and at Roundtable.  The District Committee meets on the first Thursday of the month at the Council Office, and Roundtable is held on the second Thursday at St. Paul’s Presbyterian church, just across from Central High School in San Angelo.   Both events start at 7:00 PM – WE NEED YOU TO ATTEND!!!

If you need help with summer camp reservations or spring camporee events, please call me.

COUNCIL AUCTION - SUCCESSFUL

Under the leadership of Auction Chairman, John C. Landers has announced a highly successful Auction 99.   The event, held on March 27, 1999 at the warehouses of Western Works generated over $ 6,000 for council programs.

This annual event has been successful due to the generosity of many citizens and volunteer Scouters who donate their extra “stuff” to the event.  Gary “Bull” Durham    served as the volunteer auctioneer.  This years items, which received the most attention, were the pickup truck accessories, and sailboats.

Many Executive Board Members served on the committee.  They include Earl Wisdom, Polly Vaughan, Bruce Willig, Ron Gabriel, Joe Hoelle, Randall Ross, Jarrod Stokes, Terry Swanson, Paul Cornwell, and Ted Hogan.
