District Award of Merit

Do you know someone who has served the youth of the Concho Valley for years without recognition? Someone who has contributed significantly to Scouting in our area? Someone who is a living example of the Scout Oath and Scout Law? Every year, deserving people go unrecognized simply because NO ONE WILL NOMINATE THEM FOR AN AWARD. If you think someone should be awarded the District Award of Merit, pick up a application form and return it to the council office by December the 1st.

Leader Training Awards

Every adult leader, from Tiger Cub Coach to Scoutmaster, may earn awards that recognize their dedication and service. If you have adult leaders who have completed the requirements for their Training Award, please turn the application in to the council NO LATER THAN DECEMBER 31 in order for them to be recognized at the District Awards Banquet in January.

Unit Recharter

Most units will recharter between January and March of 2000.  If you need help figuring your charter fees, or completing your charter application, please call Don at the council office (655-7107) and ask for help.  The charter process is not difficult and will take about 30 minutes to complete.  The part that takes the most time is getting the appropriate signatures.  If several units would like to conduct a “Charter Party” and be trained on how to efficiently complete your charter, call Don to arrange a date.

Popcorn Update

As popcorn sales continue, you may wish to use the following hints in order to increase sales (and YOUR profits):
  1. Phone Sale-a-thon; each boy compiles a list of people to call – grandparents, aunts & uncles, neighbors, relatives, people you go to church with, etc. – and have the boys meet together at an office with phones, then call the people on their list.
  2. Area blitz; pack or troop identifies a particular neighborhood, boys meet some afternoon, go up and down the block and sell door-to-door.
  3. Show & take-order sale; pack or troop sets up a table in front of store or business, shows samples of product, takes orders and delivers them to customers.
  4. Business sale; troop or pack identifies business and asks business owner to buy product as thank-you or Christmas presents.

REMEMBER:

  • phone, fax or deliver order  to office NO LATER THAN  5:30 PM, NOVEMBER 19TH
  • turn in your prize order at the same time for an EXTRA 1%  profit
  • you don’t have to order full cases, but you may wish to order some extra to sell later or to people who missed out
  • you may call in extra orders up through November 23rd
  • pickup your popcorn at the Western Iron Works warehouse (21 East 6th St, San Angelo)
