Permian Basin Annual Banquet
This years' banquet was held in Sonora, and hosted by Pack and Troop 19. Tim Talley and his crew really went all out this year. At the banquet we awarded two District Awards of Merit. One was awarded to Vea Anna Hooker, and the other was awarded to Frank Baker. Mrs. Hooker is from Ft. Stockton and has been a Den Leader, a Webelos Den Leader, and is a member of the District Roundtable Staff. She has also participated in Summer Camp, 7 troop activities, 5 service projects and holds both the Den Leader Award and Webelos Den Leader Award as well as the Cub Scouter Award. Mr. Baker is also from Ft. Stockton and is our current District Committee Chairman. He is an eagle Scout, has served as Troop Committee Chairman for Troop 54, as well as Assistant Scoutmaster for eight years. He has served on the District Committee for and Council Executive Committee for several years, is a member of the Order of the Arrow and holds he coveted Silver Beaver Award. Both of these recipients have been hardworkers and loyal supporters for many years and deserve this great honor.
Friends of Scouting 2000
The year 2000 looks like it is going to be a great year for Friends of Scouting. The communities of Crane, Sonora, Big Lake, Junction, Ozona, Eldorado, and Iraan all have their campaigns underway. The other towns in the district are close to getting underway. We have lots of great community chairmen this year, and I feel that we have a great chance of making our goal. Just remember that when someone knocks on your door, and asks you to give money to our great cause, that your donation is going to support the program we in the Council have pledged to deliver to your sons.
The last weekend in April(the 28, 29, 30) the Concho Valley Council will take part in The West Texas Rendezvous. The West Texas Rendezvous is a major Camporee. There will be 7 Councils represented from all over Texas. There will be plenty to do! It will be held at Hoards Creek Lake near Coleman. To sign your troop up, or for more information call the Council office at 1-800-321-7107.

Every year boys who want to join Scouting cannot simply because they do not have the money. Please help. Schedule a Family FOS presentation today. Call 655-7107.

Congratulations to James Brown (CC Troop 255) and Neil Marley (SM Troop 274) on receiving the District Award of Merit at our Banquet on January 29th. This is the highest award that a district can bestow on a Scout Volunteer! Over 35 people attended our annual gala event. Many Scouters were recognized for all the hard work they did in their units and on the district. A special thanks goes to Carey Williams for being our district banquet hostess and to district chairman Danny Williams and district commissioner Andreas Wesemann for all their hard work in manning and preparing the awards presented.
