Changes to Tiger Cub
The Tiger Cub program introduces boys and their adult partners to the excitement of Cub Scouting and the updated program this year promises to more fully involve the Tigers in the activities of our Cub Scout Packs. Following are some of the changes;
The new Basic Leader training program is the culmination of more than two years of work by volunteers and professionals throughout the nation. The program comprises two part: New Leader Essentials for all unit-level leaders and Leader Specific training, which is based on the leader’s unit-level position. New Leader Essentials is an introductory session that includes videos, discussions, and hands-on reinforcement during one 90 minute session. Leader Specific training provides the specialized knowledge a new leader needs to assume a leadership role. Specific training has been developed for the following positions and their assistants: Tiger Cub Den Leaders, Cub Scout Den Leaders, Webelos Den Leaders, Cubmasters, Pack Committee Members, Scoutmasters, Troop Committee Members, Venturing Committee Members, Venturing Advisors. New training opportunities for Leaders will be conducted this fall including the annual DOC.COM at Camp Sol Mayer on September 14-16. WEBELOS Badge Of Rank WEBELOS Scouts now have the option of two WEBELOS badges. One WEBELOS badge is a tan oval-shaped badge with and embroidered WEBELOS emblem. The other WEBELOS badge is the diamond-shaped cloth badge with a gold and light blue embroidered WEBELOS symbol. The badge to be worn is a matter of personal preference. |
DOES YOUR PACK OR TROOP NEED MONEY?
Once again the time is drawing near for our annual popcorn sale and this year promises to be the biggest and best ever. The Concho Valley Council endorses one product sale each year, and encourages units to use this opportunity to fund their entire year of Scouting. The entire year of Scouting concept may include things like registration, Boy’s Life magazine, Mom N’ Me fees, Boy Scout Summer Camp or Blue and Gold Banquets. Last year Cub Scout Pack 154 in Fort Stockton sold $13,380 in popcorn and earned over $5,700 in commissions. This amount went to fund their annual unit camp-outs, registration fees, and Boy’s Life. Additionally youth seller’s may earn prizes and seller’s of $2,000 or more become participants in the Trail’s End Scholarship program. Units are encouraged to send up to 2 representatives to the District Popcorn Kick-Offs where they will receive your unit sales kits, order forms and door prizes. District Popcorn Kick-offs
are scheduled as follows: Del Rio – October 4,
TRIP REPORTS The Camping Committee for each District is tasked with determining the level of camping activity for our Troops. The normal method of checking on this activity is to count submitted Trip Permits. Well, it should be no surprise that based on recent reports and a number of spot telephone calls that the "compliance rate" for obtaining Trip Permits appears to be approximately 30%. The importance of obtaining a Trip Permit is discussed in the Guide To Safe Scouting and other Scoutmaster training material. The insurance aspect the Trip Permit provides is the main reason to submit one for every outing. Scouting teaches the value of planning and organization to Scouts and Adult leaders can reinforce this training by having the Scouts involved with the Trip Permit submitting process. As a separate note, the Wahinkto
Lodge of the Order of The Arrow printed a 244 page Where To Go Camping
Guide. One guide was provided free to each Troop with the scheduling of
OA elections. This guide is an outstanding reference and will enhance any
Troop's program. Troops that have not received their copy should check
with their District Executives. Additional Guide copies and a CD version
is available for purchase in the Scout Shop. |
